Home inspiration ~ where do you find yours?

My house is a work in progress, as my daughter grows and our needs change I find I’m constantly reassessing what furniture we need, how rooms are used and how they are organised.  At the moment I’m working on the garden, more on that project another day, and taking time to clearing out clutter inside.

I long for the day when I’ll have a place for everything and everything in its place so I’m always on the look out for inspiration on ways to organise the house as well as inventive ways to re-invent furniture to suit my uses.

Pinterest is a wonderful source of ideas and inspiration but I also like to window shop online and the Ikea website is a constant source of referral at the moment.  I’ve got my eye on the clip together decking as well as the Raskog kitchen organiser which would be great for my study or for sewing bits and bobs, Smashed Peas and Carrots have a great makeover of this.

The Ikea YouTube channel is useful for ideas as you see items in use in different combinations and it is an amusing way to while away an afternoon instead of doing any actual tidying.

Where do you find your inspiration for new projects?

We’ve just finished redecorating after my brother moved out; having gained a couple of rooms, we’re happy that our stuff has been able to spread out a bit! (Although, having said that, I just noticed the bottom of my wardrobe, which is so full my dresses don’t hang properly… hm.)

But, more to the point and in answer to your query! I think we get our design inspiration from the things we hang on our walls. We have posters from exhibitions, and paintings from family members, and I think our decorating decisions are greatly influenced by what we hang on our walls.

I tend to be more eclectic. So I’ll pick up a bit of fabric make something with that for one room and then decide it would look better in another room and have to start all over again!
