Ah so, it is a Sunday afternoon and I’m mooching around on Facebook, looking at other people’s lives and on the right of the screen I can see the pages that my friends like.
One friend likes Febreeze, another likes Persil yet another likes Kleenex. It is good to know that my friends take their personal and home hygiene seriously but I can’t help feeling a tad disappointed. It isn’t that I don’t understand the point of Facebook pages and why brands use them, but air fresheners, laundry products and tissues? Of course these things make life run more smoothly and I like them because of that but what is the point of filling up more of my life than is necessary with them. I use them, I replace them when they run out, that’s it. No need to add them into my social life is there? Yes of course tell me how great a stain remover is if I’m complaining about my daughter writing all over the cushion covers but please don’t turn up on my doorstep randomly telling me how much you like a a product.
It all seems so mundane and lacking in imagination and fun.
Here are some Facebook pages I would like to like:
- Enticing underwear and glamorous high heels.
- Beautifully designed, fitted and well made clothes.
- Inspiring words and life stories.
- Things that make me laugh till I cry.
- Really really filthy jokes.
- Friendship.
- Really good haircuts.
- Cats (Though I’ve a feeling we’ve more than enough of those)
So keep your air freshner and your laundry liquids, I don’t want a clean sanitised life, I want a filthy, joyous, friendship filled life. Stick that on your Facebook page and like it!

I couldn’t agree more! For a very long time I refused to ‘like’ anything on Facebook. Now I’m careful to keep it to things I actually do like, and don’t just go around clicking the ‘like’ button on anything and everything I use. Life is too short.
I “like” you Miss Harper!
